About FairBuyout

Objective numbers for the conversations that are hardest to have.

Splitting a shared asset — a couch, a house, a car lease, a severance package — usually comes down to one uncomfortable question: what's a fair number? FairBuyout exists to answer that question with math instead of guesswork, so the two people involved can spend their energy on the conversation, not the arithmetic.

Every calculator on this site runs the same kind of formula a mediator, appraiser, or HR department would use — straight-line depreciation for personal property, equity math for real estate, residual-plus-fees for lease buyouts, tenure-based formulas for severance — and shows its work in a plain-English breakdown, not just a final figure.

The site is built and maintained as an independent, static, ad-supported tool. It is not a law firm, accounting firm, or financial advisory, and nothing on it constitutes legal, tax, or financial advice — see our privacy policy for how we handle (or rather, don't collect) your data.

How the numbers are calculated

Each calculator is schema-driven: the inputs, the formula, and the plain-English summary all live in one place in the codebase, so the same logic that powers the on-screen result also powers the downloadable PDF summary. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser — see how we handle data.
